After a much-deserved break from the red carpet circus, Gwyneth Paltrow’s stepping out again. During her recent world-wind promotional tour for Iron Man, we were reminded why the fashion world remains smitten with the actress. Paltrow’s skill for blending subversive elements (tough Givenchy stiletto gladiators) with elegance (a vintage Yves Saint Laurent floral frock) into one desirable package is still razor sharp.
As we worked on our What Would She Wear: Gwyneth Paltrow story, we knew that finding the right mix of fashion-forward pieces and clean classics was of paramount importance. We chose an Anna Sui dress with a striking print for the outfit’s main focal point, and then added an impeccably cut black windbreaker and a standout pair of four-inch platform wedges. Paltrow rarely wears extraneous bits (no over-accessorizing for her, just the ever present Gucci sunglasses), so we kept the rest of the look relatively simple and pretty pared down. We also included one of our new favorite beauty products—Posietint—a petal pink cheek and lip stain that will give your skin a gorgeous Paltrow-like glow.
- Steve Madden Bdoc Bag ($54.99)
Paltrow’s a bit of a wild card when it comes to bags, but we think she’d approve of this Pierre Hardy-inspired tote. The black-and-white patent leather looks sharp while the roomy dimensions allow for lots of gear (scripts, sippy cups, whatever). - Vena Cava Ferrari Jacket ($375)
In theory, a cropped windbreaker with an elastic waist sounds like a bad eighties fashion choice, but Vena Cava’s version is actually divine. The little details, like perfectly cropped sleeves and subtle ruffle across the bodice, turn this lightweight jacket into a must-buy piece. - Anna Sui Deco Print Dress ($332)
Paltrow knows how to effectively use a print, so we have a hunch she’d flip for this black-and-white silk Anna Sui dress. The stark palette shows off the gorgeous deco print and the kimono-style sleeves drape gorgeously. - Benefit Cosmetics posietint ($28)
The recent debut of posietint—a new, lighter, pinky version of our beloved benetint—was met with cheers at the WhoWhatWearDaily.com office. The soft shade is perfect for fair faces and we think it would beautifully compliment Paltrow’s complexion. - Eley Kishimoto Sunglasses ($220)
Paltrow knows the power of a good oversized pair of sunglasses, in fact, she’s rarely seen outside without them. These large cream frames by the London-based brand will provide ample protection from the paparazzi, sun, or whatever you’re hiding from. - Calvin Klein Salena Sandals ($130)
As her recent press appearances prove, Paltrow loves statement shoes. Recently she’s been spotted in gorgeous patent Loubis, a killer pair of black lace Giuseppe Zanotti pumps with a seven-inch heel, and scads of heavenly gladiators. We think these four-inch strappy wedges are in perfect keeping with her shoe style and the moderate price is in keeping with most budgets.
